The Patio Set

I made this set in answer to a WCIF posted by Chris W at BPS.  He was looking for a Modern Patio Cover.  Several suggestions were given for patio covers that Chris might like and most of them I've seen and used in my game over the years.  But Chris was more interested in a modular patio cover that could be used for different sized buildings and could be retextured to represent different styles of patio covers and none of the answers to his WCIF quite fit that criteria.  I thought what he wanted was a good idea so I volunteered to make the patio cover that was pictured in a photo that Chris included in his original post.

As usual, I got carried away again and not only did I create the patio cover, but I duplicated practically everything in the photo for TS2.  Let me tell you, this is a BIG set with 24 new, original meshes and 150 recolors all created with my own textures.  For the past week, I haven't done much else but work on this set.  But, EUREKA!, it's finally finished.  So Chris, here it is, made especially for you, The Patio Set.

Just to give you an idea of what Chris wanted, here is the photo he included in his post...

and here is an in-game shot of my rendition of the patio for TS2...

I made everything except the bamboo plant (a Maxis mesh), the doors (from a Maxis Match set of the game's Craftman doors by MsBarrows) and the stone fence in the background (Veranka's converted Old Mill Stone-Faced Rock Fence.)

I've divided the set into groups to make it easier to review the sets contents.

The first group is, of course,

The Patio Cover

The roof is made up of seven modular sections as follows:

The Patio Roof Post and Beam

  • 212 faces
  • Appears in the catalog under Build/One Story Columns for 75 Simoleons.
  • Two recolorable subsets, the wood and the metal parts.
  • Includes 20 wood recolors and 9 metal recolors.
  • This is the Master mesh for all the sections of the modular patio cover.

Beam Left End

  • 212 faces
  • Appears in the catalog under Build/One Story Columns for 75 Simoleons.
  • Two recolorable subsets, the wood and the metal parts.
  • Slaved to the Patio Cover Post and Beam.

Beam Right End

  • 212 faces
  • Appears in the catalog under Build/One Story Columns for 75 Simoleons.
  • Two recolorable subsets, the wood and the metal parts.
  • Slaved to the Patio Cover Post and Beam.

Beam, No Post

  • 120 faces
  • Appears in the catalog under Build/One Story Columns for 50 Simoleons.
  • Two recolorable subsets, the wood and the metal parts.
  • Slaved to the Patio Cover Post and Beam.

Patio Roof Center

  • 152 faces
  • Appears in the catalog under Build/One Story Columns for 25 Simoleons.
  • Recolorable.
  • Slaved to the Patio Cover Post and Beam.

Patio Roof Left End

  • 152 faces
  • Appears in the catalog under Build/One Story Columns for 12 Simoleons.
  • Recolorable.
  • Slaved to the Patio Cover Post and Beam.

Patio Roof Right End

  • 152 faces
  • Appears in the catalog under Build/One Story Columns for 12 Simoleons.
  • Recolorable.
  • Slaved to the Patio Cover Post and Beam.

NOTE:  The three patio roof sections were cloned from a base game column, but I edited the BHAVs so they will not block a Sim's path and will not interfere with placing objects underneath the roof.

 The Furniture Grouping

Patio Sofa

  • Appears in the Catalog under Seating/Sofas for 250 Simoleons.

  • Appears in the Catalog under Seating/Livingroom for 105 Simoleons.
  • Two recolorable subsets, the fabric and the wood frame.

With much appreciated assistance from Honeywell at MTS, I was able to edit the BHAV's for this ceiling light so it can be placed outdoors without cheats (all Maxis ceiling lights must be place indoors unless the moveobjects cheat is invoked).  A great big "Thank You" to Honeywell.

Patio Decorative Plants

All the decorative plants are made of parts of meshes I extracted from Maxis objects and edited them to be used as plants to be placed on the slot in the Planters.

All appear in the Catalog under Decorative/Plants.

  • The Coleus is slaved to the Maxis "Potted Coleus from Planter's Paradise" and requires the M&G Stuff Pack.
  • The Perennials are slaved to the Maxis "Potted Perennials from Planter's Paradise" and requires the M&G Stuff Pack.
  • The Pansies are slaved to the Maxis "Pretty Pot O' Pansies" and require the OFB EP.
  • The Hosta, and both Cacti are BG compatible.

The file names of the plants reflect the expansion pack required for their use.

  • MnG = Mansion and Garden Stuff Pack.
  • OFB = Open for Business Expansion Pack.
  • BG = Base Game Compatible.

Patio Pillows

  • 168 faces

A collection file with custom icon is included.

For Recolorers:

To make it easier for recolorers to retexture objects from The Patio Set, I've included a folder containing overlays for the Master Post and Beam, Sofa wood and fabric, Pillows, and Fireplace in .png, .psp and .psd formats.  Instructions for use are included in the folder.

And lastly, a couple more in-game shots of the Patio Set.

A View From the West

A View From Overhead

All meshes by me, created in Milkshape.  All textures by me, created in PSP.

Everything should be Basegame compatible with the exception of the 3 decorative plants noted above.  Tested in a vanilla game with all expansions plus M&G.  Files are Compressed.  If you experience any problems with any of the objects in this set, please don't hesitate to contact me via email or in the comments area.

Ray :)

UPDATE:

It has come to my attention that if a floor tile is placed over the Patio Fireplace, the top of the fireplace will poke through the floor slightly and is visible above.  I've fixed that issue and updated the download files.  I've also uploaded an updated version of the fireplace only for those who have downloaded prior to 6-25-2015.  Please download the newer version and let it overwrite the original.

    1. I checked out your site. Looking good and great use of the Patio Set! I noticed you also did a camping lot. Have you seen my camping set? It's got a lot of useful camping objects you might be able to use. You can find it by clicking on the "My BPS Archives button and scrolling about half-way down the page. The set is called "Let's Go Camping".
